Honestly, we didn’t see it coming. Quinn and Kyle took 1st place for the 5th grade! Which now makes them eligible to go on to the district science fair. That ought to be interesting. They each got a crisp new $10 as well, although Quinn promptly lost his. We are praying for its safe return.
Brooklyn had a little bit of a hard time with that. I think she was expecting to win, too. There were several other projects that were the same as hers, though. After they announced the winners for grades K, 1, and 2, they then gave out “special awards,” which is the nice way of saying everyone gets to win something. She was not really picking up on the concept there, and was pretty upset at not having won any cash.
Quinn had a great time calling everyone he knew to tell them the good news. He called Aunt Suze, which was a great place to start. They have a large family, so they passed the phone around and he got to share the news several times. More bang for your buck, you know. While he was on the phone, Ryan told him, “If they ask what I won, tell them I won 3rd place in the chess tournament.” I love it!
Someone asked if we are sprucing up the project at all before going to district and we replied, “I hope not!!” Wish us luck!
