Robb and Dan had their first experience skydiving this week. They started by watching a movie about skydiving safety. The opening part had a guy with a really long, ZZ Top-style beard, telling us that it would be “the most exciting day of your life.” It’s all downhill from here, we thought.
The skydiving place was not exactly the model of efficiency that one would hope. There were experienced skydivers everywhere, though, which was kind of fun.
In this first picture, Robb and Dan were getting on the list for the next available jump. I think, because there was just two of them, they were able to sneak into a group ahead of where they were originally scheduled to be, which was kind of nice.
The first jump is a tandem jump, meaning an experienced jumper is strapped to your back and pulls the chute for you if you freak out. In this picture, Robb’s partner is strapping him into his harness (which was quite uncomfortable!) and giving him some instructions.
During the jump, he actually loosened Robb’s harness so he would be more comfortable. That was a little unexpected!
It’s hard to see Robb in this next picture, but I call it the moment of truth… will you get in the plane? Or chicken out? There were about 12 tandem jumpers on the plane that day. They were packed in like sardines.
This picture with the chutes open is kind of hard to see… we had a hard time from the ground knowing which parachute was which person. This last picture says it all… wild hair and big smiles. They will definately be doing this again!!
