Around 40 young contestants entered the Oleson Family Stick Horse Rodeo this year, our 3 kids among them. Here they are, lined up and ready to go!
In this second picture, Ryan is demonstrating the fine art of barrel racing. Robb was one of the corner judges, standing near one barrel to help the cowboys go the right direction around the barrel. Some of the kids had nice, store-bought stick horses, but most had the dad-made variety. The dads took branches from nearby bushes, stripped them down to just a tail, and added a paper cup head and small rope reins.
I think my favorite part of the rodeo was when the cowboys and cowgirls all rode wild horses. Quinn’s horse nearly got away from him! Luckily, he’s been practicing his sweet moves for years…! He and his stick horse were all over the arena.
This last picture is hard to see, and I apologize for that. I took the picture at night. I just could not resist once I saw this stick horse corral! I thought it was just way too cute! There were about 4 stick horses resting up here after the big rodeo.
We can’t wait for Stick Horse Rodeo 2010!
