Robb gave the kids summer projects. Brooklyn’s project is the flower garden, Ryan’s is building a new desk for his room (and helping finish the dog house) and Quinn’s is the vegetable garden.
Despite his disdain for weeding, he has really enjoyed this project.
He planted both regular and purple potatoes, radishes, carrots, peas, onions, strawberries, and a few things that didn’t come up. The radishes, of course, were the first to ripen and caused a lot of excitement from Brooklyn, who loves radishes.
It’s been fun to watch him care for the garden, water and weed it, and get excited about harvesting the veggies. He asked me the other day when I thought he could dig up the potatoes. I told him it would be at the end of summer, and he was having a little trouble wanting to wait that long. Not that I blame him. Harvesting food you’ve grown yourself is a lot of fun. I can’t wait to see the end of season haul!
